Moving on...

I'm sorry for not posting since school has started.  I said I would...and i didn't.  ah well.

But I have started a new site, just to be different really (and have my own domain). Here it is:

The Long Process

I'm still gradually going through the whole design process so format and function of the site will be changing a bit, but it is the new home of my blog.  I don't have it set up for RSS yet, so you can't subscribe just yet, but I'll be working on that soon as well.

Feel free to check it out.

i love creativity!!

this post will be short.  I should be doing homework, but I heard unbelieveable news.

Apparently, with plummeting ratings, CBS's "Survivor" is putting a new spin on the show in its 14th season: a battle of the races.

White vs. Black vs. Asian vs. Hispanic!!!!!!!!!!

I guess different groups and individuals are already protesting the decision.

I think it's ingenious...marketing at its best.  Taking something ancient and stale and by making it the very focal point of the show, making it totally original.  very creative.  Someone's salary should be doubled.  I'm sure CBS's public relations team will be busy this fall, but I'm also pretty sure CBS has found something the public will very much like to watch.

If anyone has any information on this, let me know.  I'll post some links later when I find a few more credible ones.

that is all.

A full circle...

A Circle of Innovation was excellent.  I highly recommend it to...well, anyone really.  Unfortunately, Peters goes rapidly through so many ideas that I don't feel even an inkling of desire to post about them.  Everyone should read it; not doing so is unacceptable. This way I don't have to write about it ever.

New book!  Actually, I'm still slogging my way through Don't Waste Your Life, but as you can see, I have started another book for easy reading.  You can get it here.   Keith Ferrazzi is an ok writer, but the book has been pretty insightful so far.

I have a feeling that my posts will get shorter and shorter and school progresses, but I will  at least try to keep posting with some regularity.

that is all.

The Circle of Innovation: You Can't Shrink Your Way to Greatness

so I L-I-E-D!!!

I've honestly kinda slacked off in the reading department.  I haven't finished my book my John Piper yet, as it's pretty deep and I have to read everything he says twice.  On a positive note, however, I'm quickly making my way through the pages of another book!

The book is called "The Circle of Innovation" by Tom Peters.  If you check out the link, you'll see the front cover is a pretty obnoxious design (actually, the back is even worse than the front!).   What you won't be able to see  from the linked webpage is how obnoxious Peters' writing is.  He likes writing in CAPITAL letters for EMPHASIS, also  sometimes H-Y-P-H-E-N-A-T-I-N-G those words as well.  One of every two sentences has a parenthetical note within his thoughts (it's as if he went through the book right before it went to press and added in thousands of his little ideas).

I'm not sure if Peters writes this way because he truly loves being different (he is writing a book on innovation), or if he simply never felt a need to adhere to common writing principles...I'm guessing a combination of both.

Even with the obnoxious design and style of the book, "Innovation" has been very entertaining so far.  My favorite chapter has been about mistakes.  Peters resides in Silicon Valley, where businesspeople who haven't been ivolved in a bankrupt business are seen as inexperienced.  Failure is regarded as a battle scar and also a prerequisite for becoming a good leader.

Later he quotes Wayne Gretzy's well-known comment, "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take, "  explaining that while failure sucks, not accomplishing anything because you didn't try is so much worse.  No one perfects anything the first time they try, no matter  how much they have planned.   So while planning is good, and developing ideas is great, you have to step into action and stick your neck out to achieve anything of substance.

That's enough for tonight.  Hopefully my next entry will be a little more collected than this quick late-nite post.  Stay tuned for more thoughts on Peters and Piper (and picked a peck of pickled peppers).

ooooh! quickly, another idea.  Laundry always stinks, takes up lots of time, and there's always those garments that you wear once that aren't realy dirty but aren't actually clean.  So you can't place them in your closet but they don't belong in the hamper either...a connundrum (sp?)

Every closet should have some kind of bread-maker sized appliance that you can throw shirts and pants and such into and cleans them in a few minutes using static or some nifty way of cleaning (i was thinking dry-cleaning originally but after a little bit of research found that dry cleaning is definitely not 'dry').

that way, after two minutes, you hang  or fold your clothes back up so everything is always clean.  You don't have to devote 4 hours of your saturday to take care of laundry, and you always have your entire wardrobe to choose from because your clothes are cleaned after every use.  someone figure this out and then give me one.

that is all.

something to avoid (and then something else)

Principle Centered Leadership is not a book i would recommend.  My rule of thumb is to  give every book I begin reading at least 50 pages to determine whether its worth my attention.  It was a very long and uninteresting 50 pages.  There were a few good thoughts, but it really was just poorly written.  enough said.

Hopefully I'll be able to give a positive book report on the next one I'm reading.  It's entitled Don't Waste Your Life by John Piper.

On a totallly different note, I found out that New Harbour is being played on the radio in Fort Wayne (X102.3) and in South Bend (103.9 'The Bear').  Feel feel to drop  either of the stations a line requesting us.

Actually making it on to radio airwaves is amazing news to hear and it really helps keep us going.  Thanks to all those requesting our music, and especially Lauren Vandergrift for getting us in at 103.9.

that is all.
